This mod is still better than any commercial LOTR game out there. Whereas evil forces are downright cowardly, often breaking with half the unit left. Even Dwarven miners, my worst unit, will stand and fight to the last man. I've played several of the races now, and it seems to me that good forces rarely rout. The warriors on the other hand kicked ass, and basically captured the town all by themselves. I attacked a rebel town and my miners were decimated by a couple units of rebel huntsmen (a missile unit). Dwarves dominate siege battles, although the miners don't stand up to sustained melee like their stats suggest they should. Almost all the important battles are sieges anyway, and cavalry is shit in sieges. I haven't really been missing cavalry so far. Its especially painful in my current Dwarf game because those stumpy legs move so damn slow. I always build the best roads possible, but it seems the AI has a road phobia. I consider the dwarves a bit like scotland, but more heavy infantry to go with some decent pikeman, and some excellent crossbows which decimate the light enemy hordes. Now this report may be biased, as i was fighting mainly goblins, a little mordor, and some rhun, but I found that even armies with cavalry couldn't break my line. trolls are a "problem", but it isn't insurmountable. Dwarfish units are slow, but god help you if you don't outmaneuver them they will take multiple waves of your units and laugh. To give you an idea of how tough dwarves are, their peasant unit equivalent the dwarfish miners has a defense of ten. I have routed two full stacks give or take of goblin mid-game units (only one unit of trolls), with a slightly less than full-strength stack with 1 general.
you can hire dale cavalry down by erebor way and if you do so, you'll only need one or two units per stack.ĭwarfish units are made up exclusively of badass motherfuckers who don't die. I actually have been playing exclusively with teh dwarves.
